Plenary: Patients, Policy & Politics: How Life Sciences is a Key Priority for Georgia & Patients
From investments in workforce and STEM infrastructure at our colleges and universities to securing an “essential” designation for life science companies during the pandemic, Georgia Bio’s policy and advocacy work keeps Georgia’s life science industry thriving.
This session will kick off with remarks from incoming GRA President & CEO, Dr. Tim Denning on the critical relationship between industry and academia; and preview his vision for GRA. Dr. Denning will be followed by a conversation with PhRMA and patient leaders discussing a key industry priority…Policies to Help Patients Pay Less for their Medicines.
Dr. Denning's remarks will be followed by a panel discussion on a key industry priority…Share the Savings.
Americans want policymakers to see lowering out-of-pocket costs for health care as a top priority. In 2021, West Virginia became the first state in the nation to adopt ground-breaking legislation, HB2263, requiring insurers and their PBMs to share the savings they negotiate on medicines directly with patients. This legislation serves as a roadmap for other states looking to help lower costs for patients. Join us for a lively conversation to learn how this commonsense policy could help lower what patients pay out of pocket by hundreds of dollars a year. And learn how you can help make this happen in Georgia.

Plenary: Launching and Funding a Company in a Challenging Environment: Investors' Perspectives of Best Practices and Critical Errors
Launching a life science company requires thousands of “make it or break it” decisions around developing the science, building the team, and financing the business. Additionally, we have gone from one of the strongest environments to one of the more challenging. This panel of seasoned investors will discuss best practices and critical errors companies make in building a capital stack from founding through acquisition as well as how those decisions influence an investor’s interest in investing at each stage and the impact on the company’s valuation. This panel will also dive into how the funding landscape for life science companies has transformed dramatically over the past 24 months.
